From the Alpen tower on Planplatten (Hasliberg), your adventure begins with a genuine highlight: At 2,250 m above sea level, the Alpen tower panoramic restaurant offers a magnificent 360° panoramic view over the Hasli Valley and the peaks of the Bernese and Central Swiss Alps.

The Horizontweg starts right here – a scenic high-altitude route towards Engstlenalp, taking you for long stretches along the ridge and through open alpine meadows. At around 10 km and approximately 3½–4 hours, the tour is very manageable and remains pleasantly varied despite the panoramic views.

At the bottom, on Engstlenalp, the Engstlensee awaits as the crowning highlight at around 1,851 m above sea level – a tranquil mountain lake set in an impressive landscape. It is well worth taking a walk around the shore: the water, Swiss stone pines and mountain slopes create a peaceful atmosphere and striking photo opportunities – especially when there is little wind.
Practical: during the season, the Engstlenalp bus takes you back towards Innertkirchen/Meiringen (depending on service availability and reservations).

This makes for a well-rounded excursion combining mountain railway panoramas, a welcoming place to stop and one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Hasli Valley.
