The approximately 15 km2 Witi Cantonal Agricultural and Protected Zone lies in the plain between Grenchen and Solothurn. The stork village of Altreu, with the Witi Information Centre, is located practically at its centre. As an important hare habitat in Switzerland and a significant breeding area for numerous bird species, the Witi Protected Zone is home to many valuable natural treasures. The western part of the area is designated as a waterbird and migratory bird reserve of national importance.
