Ascona is considered a small gem on Lake Maggiore, with palm trees, a mild climate and an almost Mediterranean holiday atmosphere. The colourful Lungolago is particularly beautiful: here, you can stroll right along the water past cafés, terraces and pretty façades – ideal for watching the sunset over the lake.
In the winding lanes of the old town, you will discover boutiques, galleries and small squares, all leading to Piazza G. Motta by the lake. A fascinating contrast is nearby Monte Verità, which became known at the beginning of the 20th century as a meeting place for free spirits and creative artists and today combines culture and nature.
If you fancy a change of scene, take a boat trip to the Brissago Islands, which are easily accessible from Ascona.
Active visitors are also well catered for: swimming, stand-up paddling or simply taking a walk along the shore – everything is close by and wonderfully relaxed. There are also regular events that bring the town to life – perfect if you want not only to see Ascona, but to experience it.
