Bissone is a small, picturesque village on the southern arm of Lake Lugano – opposite Melide and right by the Melide causeway. The old village centre is considered worthy of protection (ISOS) and delights visitors with palazzi, narrow lanes and the typical arcades around the village square. The lakeside is perfect for a relaxing stroll, with beautiful views across the lake and the surrounding mountains.

A cultural highlight is the Church of San Carpoforo: first mentioned in 1148, rebuilt in the 17th century and featuring a distinctive late-medieval bell tower. Bissone is also associated with the name of Baroque architect Francesco Borromini – his birthplace is particularly noteworthy in the village.

Thanks to its proximity to Lugano (around 8 km), Bissone is perfect for a quiet stopover or a leisurely coffee by the water.
