At 2,350 m above sea level, Brienzer Rothorn is a magnificent mountain viewpoint above Lake Brienz, offering an impressive 360° panorama reaching as far as the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The journey there is an experience in itself: from Brienz, the nostalgic Brienz Rothorn Railway (cogwheel railway) climbs up the mountain – inaugurated in 1892 and still a classic in the Bernese Oberland. Alternatively, you can reach the summit from the Lucerne side by taking the cable car from Sörenberg – in around 7 minutes, you are whisked up to the highest mountain in the canton of Lucerne, the “Top of Biosphere”.

At the top, the Rothorn Kulm summit restaurant and its terrace invite you to linger – with views of the lake and a sea of peaks. With a little luck, you may also spot a colony of ibex around the summit.
There are also beautiful hiking trails and ridge routes all around, making Rothorn ideal for combining exercise with photo stops.
