The Bürgenstock Cliff Path is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular high-level promenades – high above Lake Lucerne with magnificent views down over the water and mountains.

The historic path was built into the 1900–1905 steep rock face and leads from the Bürgenstock area towards the Känzeli (Chänzeli) viewpoint. At around 2.2 km long and with a walking time of approximately 1 hour, the route is an easy outing, with only a gentle incline, and is even suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Along the way, you will enjoy ever-changing perspectives, sometimes directly beside the rock face and sometimes on open sections with panoramic views.

A highlight along the route is the Hammetschwand Lift: a freestanding outdoor lift that shoots 153 m upwards and is considered the highest of its kind in Europe. You can use it to extend or shorten the loop – and another superb viewing terrace awaits you at the top.

Good to know: The cliff path is accessible seasonally (typically May to October) and is closed in winter.
