CERN near Geneva (Meyrin, directly on the Franco-Swiss border) is one of the most exciting destinations for anyone interested in technology and science.

It is also home to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC): a 27-km ring of superconducting magnets in a tunnel around 100 m underground. For visitors, the CERN Science Gateway is ideal: admission is free, although registration is required.

The exhibitions and activities are generally open Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays), with last admission at 16:30. On site, you can expect interactive exhibitions (for example, on particle physics, the universe and the quantum world), as well as shows or workshops depending on the programme.
The Guided Tours with CERN staff are particularly popular; for individual visits, places are often released shortly before the start (first come, first served).

Getting there is easy: from Geneva-Cornavin railway station, take Tram 18 to “Meyrin, CERN”, which takes you directly to the site. This makes it easy to plan a visit as a half-day or full-day excursion – with plenty of “wow factor” and a glimpse behind the scenes of modern research.
