Enter the Gorges du Durnand – and immerse yourself in a wild, cool gorge landscape near Bovernier (close to Martigny) in Valais. The accessible gorge is about 1 km long and leads over suspended wooden walkways, bridges, short tunnels and stairs – a real little adventure.
Along the way, new perspectives open up onto the cliffs and the 14 waterfalls plunging into the depths. There are 330 steps in total, so sturdy footwear and sure-footedness are recommended. Allow about one hour for the gorge section itself; the return journey is often more leisurely through the forest.
The site has been open to visitors since 1877 (and was extensively renovated later) and is one of the region’s best-known gorge excursions.
It is particularly spectacular on warm days – the spray and shade in the gorge provide a refreshing break in the heart of nature.
