The Gemmi Pass is a historic Alpine crossing between Leukerbad (Valais) and Kandersteg (Bernese Oberland) and is considered one of Switzerland’s classic pass hikes. Those wishing to avoid the steep ascent can take the Gemmi cable car from Leukerbad to the Gemmi plateau in just around 6 minutes.

At the top, a vast, rocky high-altitude landscape with magnificent views awaits – perfect for leisurely panoramic walks or longer tours. A particular highlight is Daubensee, a tranquil mountain lake that can be circumnavigated on a beautiful circular trail in around two hours.
The famous route across the Gemmi also leads directly past the lake, making this excursion ideal for anyone who wants to combine nature and exercise.

In summer, the clear light and barren rocky landscape provide fantastic photo opportunities – in winter, the area is also used for winter hiking and cross-country skiing.

A charming extra: On the last Sunday in July, a traditional shepherds’ festival takes place at Daubensee, when many sheep gather by the lake.
