When spring arrives in Bern, the city takes on a true “Sakura feeling” with its cherry blossoms. The Rose Garden is particularly popular: the Japanese cherry trees usually bloom from late March to early April – and the garden also offers one of the finest views of Bern’s Old Town.

As the peak bloom lasts only a short time, it is worth coming early in the morning or during the week – it is quieter then, and the light is often at its best for photos. If you would like to combine your visit with a stroll, turn it into a leisurely city walk: head up from the centre to the Rose Garden and then back down towards the Aare and the Old Town.

Individual rows of cherry trees in residential neighbourhoods are also beautiful (and often less crowded) – for example along Rodtmattstrasse.

This makes for a short spring outing that perfectly combines nature, views and a city stroll.
