Lugano is the lively city on Lake Lugano in Ticino – directly on the border with Italy – combining Swiss charm with Mediterranean flair. Thanks to its mild climate, palm trees and lakeside promenade, a walk by the water feels almost like a holiday. A highlight is Parco Ciani, a green oasis in the centre with impressive trees, paths and plenty of space to breathe.

The city’s main meeting place is Piazza della Riforma – surrounded by cafés and restaurants and often serving as a stage for events. For strolling and shopping, Via Nassa is well worth a visit, with its arcades stretching for around 270 metres directly along the lakeside promenade. Culturally, LAC (Lugano Arte e Cultura) sets the tone – a multidisciplinary cultural centre that opened in 2015. For panoramic views and outdoor activities, head to the local mountains Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore, both easily accessible by train.
