The nature reserve in the Magadino Plain – known as Bolle di Magadino – lies where the Ticino and Verzasca rivers flow into Lake Maggiore. It is a cantonal protected area and one of the internationally significant floodplain landscapes of Switzerland.

The constant interplay between river and lake creates a varied aquatic and alluvial landscape with ponds, reeds, sandbanks and floodplain forests. This diversity makes the area an important habitat for typical wetland plants and animals, as well as a significant resting place for migratory birds. Visitors can follow nature trails with information panels, allowing them to explore Bolle without unnecessarily disturbing nature.

Conveniently, several access points near Magadino and in the Tenero–Gordola area lead to the trails – ideal for a leisurely walk or a round with binoculars. A visit is often at its most beautiful during the bird migration seasons (spring/autumn): walk quietly, stay on the paths and give wildlife some space – then you can experience the Magadino Plain at its quiet, wildest best.
