Monte Generoso is an impressive panoramic mountain in southern Ticino and, at 1’704 m, is considered one of the region’s most beautiful viewpoints.
The journey there is an experience in itself: The cogwheel railway from Capolago on Lake Lugano travels comfortably through forests and alpine meadows up to the summit (approx. 30–40 minutes, depending on the timetable).
At the top, a sweeping panorama over the lake landscape awaits – including Lugano and Como – and, on clear days, views as far as the Alps.
A real eye-catcher is the modern summit building “Fiore di pietra” (Stone Flower), designed by Ticinese architect Mario Botta and opened in 2017. Around the summit, easy walking paths and hikes (for example from Bellavista station) invite you to discover nature in the Monte Generoso area.
Monte Generoso is therefore perfect for a delightful half-day excursion – offering views, fresh mountain air and fantastic photo opportunities in every season.
