Monte San Salvatore (912 m above sea level) is one of the best-known panoramic mountains above Lugano, offering an impressive 360° panorama of Lake Lugano, the surrounding area and, on clear days, views towards the Alps and the Po Valley.

The funicular railway from Paradiso offers a particularly convenient ascent, taking you to the summit in around 12 minutes. The railway has been operating since 1890 and typically runs every 30 minutes during the day – ideal for a spontaneous excursion without extensive planning.

At the top, viewing terraces and several walking and hiking trails invite you to continue exploring, for example down towards Carona/Ciona or Pazzallo/Paradiso. Those looking for a more challenging experience will also find a via ferrata on the mountain (with the appropriate equipment and experience).

A lovely extra is the small museum at the summit, including a section dedicated to cave research (speleology) in Ticino.

Monte San Salvatore is therefore perfect as a short panoramic trip, a starting point for a hike or an enjoyable combination of mountains, views and culture.
