Thielle Castle, also known as Zihlbrücke Castle, is a small moated castle on the Zihl Canal in the municipality of Gals in the Bernese Seeland – in the Three-Lakes Region between Lake Neuchâtel and Lake Biel.

It was built in the late 13th century (between 1270 and 1300) on behalf of the Count of Neuchâtel to secure the then Zihlbrücke and an important access route to the region. Following the correction of the Jura waters and the construction of the Zihl Canal, the castle came to stand on the opposite bank; at the end of the 19th century, it was assigned to the Canton of Bern.

Historically, the site was primarily of strategic and military importance and was also used for administration and the administration of justice for many years. Today, the castle is privately owned and is normally not open to visitors inside – but from the outside it makes a wonderful photo subject by the water.

A short detour is particularly worthwhile when walking or cycling along the canal, where beautiful views of the castle and the tranquil waterscape appear time and again.
