Winter in Nods BE can be wonderfully beautiful, especially when the sun is shining and a thick blanket of fog lies over the Swiss Plateau. Then there is a cheerful buzz of activity at the foot of Chasseral, with hikers right in the middle of it all. The route starts at Route de Chasseral, which climbs straight towards Chasseral. After 400 metres, the road forks. To the left, people go sledging and skiing. To the right, the route leads to the start of the cross-country ski trail and the snowshoe trail – follow the latter. About fifteen minutes later, leave it to the left and walk straight ahead along the prepared trail into the forest. From this point on, the landscape belongs entirely to winter hikers. Where the forest opens up, you can look towards the white Alpine arc. The view extends as far as Mont Blanc. You will also see the stacks of firewood along the trail. They wear white caps. The forest on Chasseral is used, but it is also a wildlife refuge. For this reason, you should not leave the paths. Halfway along, the winter hiking trail leaves the forest and leads gently downhill to Les Prés Vaillons, a broad valley between Chasseral and Mont Sujet, through which the trail leads back to Nods.
